Just to add to the struggles: President Bush pushes for the No Child Left Behind Act and how it will require all students to reach higher achievement by a certain time frame. Then I find out just today: Our district gets a cut of over $135,000 from NCLB funding. Now, how can we expect NCLB to work if there is no funding? Thus, no funding, schools raise budgets or make cuts. Parents have to spend more to get more. A free education is getting more costly everyday. (And private school tuition-through the roof now!)
You aspire to eventually not have to struggle once you get a house and a career, and it seems as if you struggle more. Granted, I am a lot better off than when I grew up, but I wonder if I'll end up where I started once I retire. Besides teachers, all working people must worry. I am a moderate Democrat who has voted independent and republican once before, but this current administration is horrible. Say what you will about Clinton (aka Wild Willie!): our economy was up. This current government has created such a negative trickle down effect: no wonder schools, small businesses, and even major businesses are gasping for air. I think only the oil companies are dancing in the streets as of late.
Oh, and wait until Memorial Day for those gas prices: anyway still have their bikes and roller skates?
