Stanley,
Cliffside Park is a good town with a lot of good diversity. The surrounding areas are rooted in diversity and people of different backgrounds. That is what makes this area so unique and so beautifully different.
As far as education, is it fair to compare our population to areas of fluent speaking people- the answer is no. These fluent areas do not make for a better schooling- in fact Cliffside Park may have better experience in teaching because they are ACTUALLY faced with real obstacles that must be overcome. What bigger hurdle is there than learning things when it isn't in your native language?! Or teaching students who come to school with a limited amount of literacy experience? Maybe the Cliffside Park teachers or teachers in the same type of schools are superior to those who teach in schools where kids come to school already having strong academic skills. It is easy to say you are a good school district when your students already have a head start. It would be like giving one marathon runner a 10 mile head start, then comparing it with another runner who started at the start line, and then saying that the first guy is a better runner because he finished before the second. Don't let those "superior" schools fool you, they pat themselves on the back for being superior, but how much of their success is directly a result of their teaching effort? Would those students be where they are with or without their presence?
Lastly, the Cliffside Park kids know about working hard because some things may not have come too easy to them. This develops character and integrity and I can say that because I was a student from Cliffside Park HS. CP prepared me for college and I was given an academic scholarship to attend college. I graduated magna cum laude from college and went on to earn a master's degree. I went to college with kids from private schools and upper Bergen county schools, and in no way did they receive a far better education than I did. I can attest to that.
The opportunity to make something of yourself is available at Cliffside, but it isn't offered in a coddling, pampered approach, which is saturated with money, rather it is provided in a take it or leave it real-life approach. Ultimately, education is what you put into it and it is best to learn that early on instead of being carried through until you realize it too late in college. I would rather live here and send my kids to a school that has that kind of character than a school where things come easy. I guess it all depends on the type of kid you want to raise.
