I agree with your comment...I am a teacher. I have not been on a negotiating team, but some of my colleagues have. I also know of friends of mine who teach in other school districts who have also been in negotiations. Let me tell you-it's not a walk in the park.
I know other careers and jobs have their negotiating woes, and some go on strike even. Teachers can be in negotiations for over a year and then some. It does take a lot to get even an inch, and the finger cannot always be pointed to adminstrators or the board: if there is no money,there just isn't any money, and, as I mentioned before, we, the local government, feel the bruises from the federal and state cuts.(Oh, and federal mismanagement, too!) I am glad to hear a settlement was reached: this shows that the board of education has some understanding of what the district needs, and that is positive and refreshing. Cliffside will be the better for it with this optimistic focus on the future.
