There are few places in America where there is a strong general interest in preserving what is already there. American values emphasize the acceptance and promotion of change...especially if we can make some money.
We the people of Cliffside Park demonstrate our willingness to accept changes here. If we REALLY REALLY didn’t like the demolition of older homes, the reconstruction of our downtown, and other similar changes we would do something…we would go to meetings and say “No more.” Even those people who post messages here don't seem to do much more than post messages. And I include myself in that group.
In the past a one-family home had several residents. Today it takes a few two-family condo/townhouse/whatever to do the same. The view of the NYC skyline is too valuable to save for a few residents. The proximity to the City is too much not to attract more residents. At some point, we will accept the building of more and more Auroras Over the Hudson (what exactly does that mean?). Remember the lesson: if you put a frog in boiling water, it will hop right out. If you put a frog in cold water and slowly raise the heat, it will be boiled to death. We accept change more easily if it seems to happen to others and in smaller pieces.
