You hit it on the head - there is something wrong. Called Supply & Demand, there is unfortunately, nothing you can do about it.
Either you find a way to make more money or find a place where what you make is enough to live on. This was our situation. The bottom line for us is the world is small in comparison. I am in a profession where earnings are not very different in one place or another. So living costs become the priority. Sometimes you get to see your friends and family as much by living 80 miles away as you do when you live 8000 miles away. The quality of the life you provide has to be more important than living in places you just can't afford to live in.
I didn't see that much of my dad in the last 20 years before he passed away. Neither did my sister who lives in Sussex. I would have chosen a different path had I been able to. My sister wants to move out where I am now but just can't find a way to accomplish that and I'm concerned if she tries. I send her literature on a house selling for $200,000, she goes to their realtor and finds one at $2,000,000 If she moves here, she will bring her problem with her.
