My older son pointed out that it had to be a Ford because the frame was further apart than a Chevy. I was only being facetious, though.
I admire your ability to back out of what you have done when your children had left the nest and reinvent yourself in something that would be fulfilling for you. I'm approaching a fork in the road and see a career change, as well. We'll see what happens.
I see exactly that out-pricing happening. Several decades ago, we were able to return to the area following a walkabout, but if we did that today, we would be forever gone. We would not be able to afford to reenter the area.
I have several ideas about why this is true. I suspect it has a lot to do with elements of Warnerian theory on social class. Within a finite space - Cliffside Park's 614 acres - when you take land which was utilized for housing by upper lower class or lower middle class and reapportion it for use by middle class or lower upper class families, you create a socioeconomic chasm and drive those service providers out of the area. The solution is importation (absent set-asides to subsidize the missing classes, that's the ONLY solution), but then the quality of life is diminished because "it's just a job" and the service jobs lack proprietorship and personal interest beyond a paycheck. I don't have a lot of time right now, but will likely have to elaborate on that in a future post.
(Hmmm... Note to self: I wonder if I can get a grant for expressing that?)
