What the heck??? [note: euphamistic substitution of something else I was really thinking]
I reiterate what I said many times before:
No government agency absolves an individual from preparing for his or herself and their own family. This includes stocking a pantry with non-perishable food to last several days without going out, and at least one gallon of water per person in the household per day for at least three days.Keep your car's gas tank filled. Don't call 911 unless YOU NEED HELP. Call PSE&G directly to report power outages (hint: write the number down and tape it to the phone). Use a UPS on your modem, router, switch and the base of your cordless phone (STILL no guarantee your VoIP phone or Internet service will stay up or last for the duration of a power outage) - keep a wired telephone. Make sure you have your heating oil delivered on a regular basis if you have oil heat. Keep several flashlights and a transistor radio with several sets of batteries. Get a weather radio and set it for Bergen, Hudson, Passaic, Essex, New York (Manhattan) counties (they can send more than weather information over those).
Go to the website below for more good stuff.
