Sue. I'm sorry that you take personally my disgust with CP public officials being implicated in egregious acts of such incredible and criminal public behavior. I don't subscribe to rumor mongering, but when the allegations make it into two of the local papers; I tend to give it more credence. Moreover, as an American I adamantly defend my right to free speech in a public forum. If you have constructive comments countering my comments, add them. And attempt to demonstrate that you have a brain when you do.
According to the Bergen Record (April 29, 2003) and the Bergen News Sun Bulletin (May 7, 2003), those men (including the Biascos) were all caught with dirty hands. Clearly, you hail from a different world than I, if that is acceptable behavior to you. While I would not abandon a friend, familiarity would not justify forgiving or approving of those kinds of blatantly selfish and greed-driven actions in my own (or any other) community. The world is sketchy enough without our officials joining the dark side. Moreover, regarding their relative guilt or innocence, here in America, we only have our criminal justice system to bear out the facts. We have to trust that system, and we have to count on our “leaders” and officials to exercise that system and their duties honestly and honorably. If those men are innocent, I am confident that the outcome would have been different, especially given their affiliations with law enforcement. While my judge friends have always demonstrated impeccable discretion regarding avoiding official association with unseemly situations and characters, they would also be very vocal and forthright in offering character witness to friends and associates whom they believed innocent. According to the news, pretty much all of those men were found guilty enough to plead out to the crimes as charged, and went as far as agreeing to make restitution. Those are not the actions of the innocent. Your “friends” were both indicted for stealing a dead man's furnace and ordering his home burned for God's sake.
As for your suggestion that I confront such men face to face, it merely accentuates your own ignorance and backwards thinking. I achieved my goal of adding my voice to the moral compass. That’s all I can do. Given the tone of your challenge, however, I daresay that you make your ostensible friends out as possibly “straight up thugs”, in addition to corrupt and morally bankrupt men and officials. Moreover, only cowards make veiled threats violence to strangers in defense of criminals and crimes. Real men (and women) litigate. Go back to school and learn how to write before your mouth makes you the next defendant.
