Mayor's Election

Today I got my sample ballot for Nov.4, 2003. I was kind of disappointed to see the current mayor is running unopposed, which means he will get close to 100% of the votes. I would not characterize selecting one candidate on the ballot as an election. I know CPK is heavily democratic town (well I tend to vote democrat too) but it would have been nice to see other names too. Why not have an open election for candidates from the same party affiliation? Did anybody thought about this before?
