What's curious is that getting approval for a restaurant/nightclub allowed to stay open until 3 a.m. in a residential zone didn't seem to have been a problem.
No suprise, some would venture to think. The owners bought it from Calabrese Realty, run by the mayor's son. And police don't look too eager to help residents to go to sleep. A family living at Anderson Court Condominiums adjacent to Border Blues said that they called police the other day when after midnight several apparently drunk patrons, leaving the bar started to hurl insults to each other in the driveway separating the two buildings, disturbing the night's peace. Police said they were aware of the problem but were waiting for more complaints to come so they can do something (?!)Another problem is boozing. Earlier this month congressional negotiators took an important step of agreeing to legislation that could force states to lower the threshold for drunken driving to 0.08 percent blood-alcohol standards for drunken drivers.
One can assume without commiting any sin that some of the Border Blues clients have much more than that in their blood.
Under the measure, states that do not reduce their threshold for drunken driving stand to lose millions of dollars in federal highway grants. New Jersey is one of the states that currently have a higher DWI threshold of 0.10.Anyone listen?
