Today's (2/14/01) issue of The Bergen News seems to find it necessary to combine the news of the death of Mr. Frank Biasco with the legal problems of Mr. Biasco's sons. I guess their editor went to the same school as the editors of The Record, and slept through the class regarding Journalistic Decency. Below is a copy of the letter I have just faxed to the Executive Editor of the Bergen News, Marsha Stoltz.

Palisades Park, NJ 07650Dear Ms. Stoltz,
I find it very disturbing that your newspaper found it necessary to print an article reporting the untimely death of Mr. Frank Biasco of Cliffside Park that included four paragraphs concerning the allegations against Mr. Biasco’s sons. The stories have nothing to do with each other.
If you felt compelled to continue to try the case of the younger Biascos you could at least have done it in a separate article.
I feel that, at the very least, you owe a sincere apology to the Biasco family for your obvious lapse in journalistic judgement.
Our Constitution gives you the right to print whatever you chose. However, with your First Amendment rights comes a certain degree of responsibility. Common decency dictates the rest.
