Usually, an obituary is an article that reports the passing of an individual, nothing more. While the passing of a person of Frank Biasco's stature is, in itself, a newsworthy event, the combining of two unrelated stories and calling it an obituary goes beyond common decency. I wonder why the reporter for the Bergen News didn’t put excerpts of the “credit card scam” story that appeared on page 5 since it involved PSE&G, the company that Frank worked for, or a couple of recipes from page 8 since Frank liked mushrooms so much.
The fact that the Biasco boys have been accused of wrongdoing has nothing what so ever to do with their father's passing. Also, please bear in mind that they have not been convicted of anything, contrary to your statement that "they committed illegal acts".
If The Record disagreed with the contention that the combining of the two stories was, at the very least, in poor taste, why then did they delete the offensive paragraphs from their print edition?
As far as the Bergen News is concerned, their bad taste was compounded by the fact that their reporter had to resort to blatant plagiarism to fill his allotted space.
Perhaps the publishers of both these newspapers should remind their staff that their job is to report news, not make it.
