I would like the thank the DeMarcos for their diligence and for providing us with a forum where we may express our views about this situation. If it weren’t for the fact that these postings appeared, perhaps The Record and Bergen News would have gotten away with their blatant disregard and lack of compassion for the Biasco family.
Regarding the granting of permission to reprint my postings, I would be happy to allow the Bergen News to reprint my postings but only in accordance with the following:
1. The Bergen News shall print my postings verbatim. They shall be in their original and unedited form and they shall not paraphrase.
2. The Bergen News shall print an apology to the people of Cliffside Park, especially to the Biasco family, for their lack of editorial judgement. This apology shall receive the same prominence as the original story, i.e. front page, with the same space allotted. I do not pretend to speak for the people of Cliffside Park and I certainly don’t speak for the Biascos, but I’m sure there are quite a few residents of our town that have been equally offended. I know the Biascos were deeply offended.
3. The apology shall be written by the same “reporter”, Douglas E. Hall. In the apology I would expect Mr. Hall to acknowledge that parts of his original piece contained parts of some one else’s copyrighted work (The Record).
I would hope that the other people who posted would be willing to allow the Bergen News to reprint their words in accordance with these same conditions. It’s great that Marsha Stoltz, who couldn’t find time to respond to my faxed letter, is offering to do this. I would suspect however, that she is just seeing an opportunity to fill her newspaper with some substantive ink, rather than with the drivel they normally print. If Ms. Stoltz and the Bergen News want to feast at this banquet they had better be prepared to eat some crow first.
