[Gen. Discussion] Just Checking

I'm sorry to be a skeptic, but in this day and age there are more and more scams being perpetrated on us daily.
So I need to ask if this is legit or not:
A few days mixed in with my mail was an envelope addressed to “RESIDENT” Cliffside Park NJ 07010.
It's from the Firemen's Mutual Benevolent Association with an address of P.O. Box 184 Cliffside Park.
It's asking for a donation.
If it really is from our fire department, I have absolutely no qualms about sending them some money.
I just want to make sure it's going to a good cause and not some fake charity or one of those professional fundraising groups that keeps the bulk of the money and gives the actual organization a very small percentage.
My intention is not intend to offend anyone, and if it's legitimate I know you'll understand my checking.
If not, then I'm glad I'm asking.
