it is not a scam. the letter does not state it is the fire dept. it says they have been relegated to ems. the local is #45 not 95. if you do not wish to donate then don't. the money gets deposited into an account after it has been accounted for. the remaining members no matter how small the the amount of members are allowed to ask for donations to continue a high school scholarship which the volunteers do not have.it is amazing how some people will try to take a legitimate organizations fundraising attempt and try to make it look like scam just because they are volunteers or a family member of a volunteer.
