enough is enough. as a former member of local 45, i had all the pride and commitment that all 63 of the vollys have now. the same went for all of the other members also. yes we recieved a paycheck for what we did. but it didn' make me a rich man. i still worked two jobs to support my family and even bought a home in town. so to say it was just a paycheck is a very stupid thing to say. remember we were there 24/7 365 days a year. that would include xmas,thanksgiving, our kids birthdays ect. ect. we chose to do it for a living. i have since transfered to another FD, i am very happy in where i am. the guys who stayed and work as emts only they deserve the credit. as for going to conventions, they may attend them once in awhile. if they go it is usually only one member. the money that the vol dept received during the fund drive, did that pay for the work that was done on the 25 yr old ladder trk. what happened when it broke down and the north bergen mechs came and repaired it. that was kept quiet so nobdy in town heard about it. who paid for the trk was it the taxpayers or a favor repayed? yes there has always been a vol fd and a paid dept. many do not remember when the vol fd wanted to get rid of the two paid chief back in the middle 70's, who were the mayors "boys" back then. the paid dept paid the price for it. the last so called paid guy was hired in 1978 because of it. also the reason why we as fomer members do not join the vol fd is the union is still there and it would be wrong. but some of you who were union members when you were part of the paid dept, (you know who you are). you have now become what we in the UNION WORLD call SCABS. when you were union members you hated the vollys forgot about that did you. put it to rest
