Interesting question, but one which may best be answered with a metaphor:
Years ago, my friends had been in the company of a young lady who wasn't particularly attractive or well-mannered. I asked them, "Why, oh friends o'mine, do you place yourself in the company of _______? She stainks!" Their reply in unison was, "because she's 'easy,'" (whatever that means). Oh yeah, I forgot the drums - "ba-dum-bump."
