One party rule does not make for a healthy democracy. A healthy democracy is based on the market place of ideas, where citizens of different political persuasions express their opinions openly so that all points of view could be debated and the most practical or popular course of action taken.
Look at Edgewater, they had an independent line beat out the incumbent councilmen. They ran on issues that mattered to the people of Edgewater and gained their attention and votes. The problem with Cliffside Park is that the long-time citizens are not accustomed to or interested in government because this adminstration has locked them out of the process for so long.
Nothing will change until there is a sufficient influx of new residents to Cliffside who have different opinions on how municipal government should be run OR the long-time citizens of Cliffside stand up and challenge the administration and demand that their voice be heard and respected.
I voted Republican this year and will do so again in the future so that a dialogue is created in which the people of this town can express their opinions in the market place of ideas. That is the American way! That is a healthy democracy!
