Tired of the sprawl in Cliffside Park....

Are you tired of seeing perfectly fine single-family homes in Cliffside Park torn down and replaced by massive multi-family structures?
Large tasteless boxes that are jammed onto small properties that are totally out of character with the neighborhood.
Putting more stress on our services, adding more traffic, making it more dangerous for kids playing, eliminating needed parking spaces, lowering surrounding property values and just in general changing the character of our community.
I always wondered how people let this happen.
Now I am getting a civics lesson first hand.
Since I live within 200 feet of a property at 401 Nelson Avenue I was sent a notice about such a project.
There is a perfectly pleasant single family house on the lot that is zoned R1 (single family only).
Someone wants to tear it down and erect one of those monstrosities that have been popping up around town.
Since it has a direct effect on my property, I’m pretty upset about the situation.
All of the surrounding houses and most of the others are vehemently opposed as well.
An initial hearing was scheduled for Monday October 29th, but because of a technicality in the letters sent out it has been rescheduled.
I have hired an attorney, as has at least one other property owner to help protect our rights. We have circulated a petition and gotten a pretty good turnout at the first hearing.
The new hearing before the Board of Adjustment is now scheduled for Monday November 26th at 8PM. It will be held in the Municipal Building at 525 Palisade Avenue.
It is open to the public and any resident is entitled to attend.
If you are fed up with this type of situation (it seems to be happening everywhere in town), then please attend the hearing either to speak or just to show your support.
Sometimes these things are temporarily removed from the Boards calendar so I will make another posting during the afternoon of the 29th to confirm the date and time.
I try to check my e:mail about once a day, so if you want more info or specifics either post a response to this or send me an e:mail MJB398CPK@aol.com
Thanks, Mitchell……………..
