Hands of A Good Man

Strange to think that one of my closest high school friends, Alan Stitt, was apparently the one flying the Nabisco plane. High school classmates wondered what happened when he didn't show up at our high school reunions, but I guess I'm the only one who missed him enough to look around to find his story apparently written here. It's a little wierd to read of his last moments... and hand parts lodged in trees... possibly one from my friend.
In our early teens Al and I spent hundreds of hours fishing for pike and pickerel at "The Res" off Mill Street in Lincoln, Massachusetts. Even at age 13, he was a very deep thinker-- and very much in control of himself. He reminded me of Roger Moore-- calculating and confident at all times. And the girls loved those hands, too.
Knowing him as well I did, I can only venture my opinion that this plane crash ultimately was completely out of his hands. I know him well enough to say that if there had been ANY way to salvage those fateful circumstances 20 years ago, Al would have been able to do it.
And, given what happened, I know he certainly would have offered a gentle hand to keep anyone from becoming hurt or frightened. He was not irresponsible or reckless. He came from good people, and we miss his warm, knowing smile.
Fare well, friend.
