Here’s Round 2 of the CP Trivia Contest. Some of you did pretty well in Round 1. Remember, you don’t have to be older than dirt to play...but it helps.
1. The F.W. Woolworth Company had one of their “5 & 10's” in Cliffside Park for many years. Where was it located?
2. Before the attack of the “big box” do-it-yourself giants, we had 3 hardware stores in town at the same time. Many years ago, we also had a lumber yard. Where was the lumber yard?
3. Before the days of push-button phones and area codes the phone company opened a Telephone Exchange in Cliffside Park. The central office was staffed by all women operators that had to connect all calls manually through the switchboard. Where was this Central Office?
4. Where was Gherkin’s Ice Cream Parlor?
5. Before actors learned to talk in the movies, this area (Cliffside Park & Fort Lee) was where they made most of the films. The phrase “cliff-hanger” comes from when the heroine of the movie was left dangling from the Palisades while she waited for her true love to come to her rescue. Cliffside Park had it’s own movie studio (not theater) in those days. Where was it?
6. This is a three part question. What was the original Hot Dog Louie’s name? (Don’t say Hot Dog Louie.) What kind of vehicle did he drive and finally, where did he park it to sell his hot dogs?
7. Back when gas was 19 cents a gallon there was a filling station on the corner of Anderson Avenue and Oakdene where we used to go to get “a dollar’s worth”. What brand of gas did they pump there?
8. Where did Bender Place get it’s name?
9. Palisades Amusement Park boasted the “World’s Largest....” what?
10. What was the name of the “other” bakery in town?
Bonus Question: Some may think this is an unfair question but I’m sure there are a couple of old farts out there that know the answer. If anyone gets this one right the ol’ Perfesser will buy ‘em lunch at Hiram’s.
Who holds the unofficial record for leaving the longest strip of rubber in front of Russell’s Diner?
Answers tonight.
