And so we're back to square one. How do we decide how to pay people. Obviously the term living wage is a start. The news today said that NJ is the fourth most expensive state to rent in. I would guess Cliffside is an example of that. After we decide what a living wage is, we have to decide whether a salary should reflect longevity. Most people would agree that the longer a person is on the job, the better their salary should be. Another factor is education. Should the person with a college degree (or more) be compensated for that also. Again, most people seem to think so. (Most parents wouldn't be so insistent that their children go to college if they didn't think that their child would have a better chance at a better paying job)
So what do we as residents of Cliffside think our public employees' salary scale should reflect?
