Some numbers you might be interested in. I work in the largest school district in our state. There are 88,000 students in 150 schools from K-12 including charter schools, schools for the exceptional. Our annual grade reports (SATs)
are from poor to excellent. Some areas do better than others. We certainly have some problems but in many areas we excel. I've worked in several districts in that many states. This one is average. Our annual budget is around $370,000,000.00 Teacher's salaries begin low as with most districts; $28,000 and can go to $65,000 if they obtain a Masters. Principals & APs go from $85,000 to $120,000. Superintendents are in the $250,000 range, including expense accounts. We are in the Public Employees Retirement System along with other government employees. The fund is not 100% funded.
I live in a modest 3br2ba house in the county and my taxes are $1575/annually. If I wanted to, I could buy a house in another area of the county and pay upwards of $5000 taxes. I prefer to live outside of any town. From the chatter on this board, something is very wrong in NE Jersey. There is no problem that cannot be fixed. Taxes are like anything else. We pay what the traffic will bear; we should pay what the traffic is in need of and nothing more.
Peace
