John, I appreciate your comment. It is always good to hear both sides. However, I have a question: are you a teacher, and do you know what sweat, conviction, talent, and patience go into teaching? I believe you do, but it was not evident in your post. I am a teacher who teacher in the regular school year and also summer school. I have seen teachers who have been at it a lot longer than I have and they worry so much about what will happen when they retire. Also, most salaries of jobs go up because they need to meet the cost of living needs. I feel for any people who work hard and are not given the appropriate raises or appreciation for their jobs. I also praise teachers who really make an impact. Where we would be without education? If it were not for my family, and some great teachers, I don't know where I'd be.
Secondly, if budgets are indeed passed, they are not solely for the purpose of padding teachers pockets. Our children need resources, and these resources are not free. In order for Cliffside Park to keep up with schools considered higher-achieving, it needs the resources to do so. Some school districts have social studies books that still list Clinton as our current president, and health books from the late '80s. Schools try to instill technological knowledge in our students, as now all jobs and careers use computers, and yet there are not enough computers in school.
Thirdly, if you want to blame someone for tax hikes, look no further than President Bush. His income tax breaks and rebates ,though tempting, only hide the real travesty. The No Child Left Behind Act has good intentions, but how can he expect all schools to meet those high standards when it is Bush' same government that is making cuts in educational spending? These federal cuts cause state cuts, which means less money from the state for our schools. I may not always agree with local government, but local governments are gasping for air because the federal government has tossed them aside like fish out of the water.
I do no like higher taxes, either, John, so I do hear you. However, if the federal government put th money in the right places, the local governments would not be forced to raise taxes or costs to the max,or they would not have to ask for a huge budget. Hey, I guess I dream of Utopia...oh,well. I do hope John that there are teachers you remember in Cliffside that made a positive impact in your life, If they are still working in Cliffside, they do deserve a good final stretch before retirement, and they also deserve a "thanks" from you. It would make their day. I know it would make mine.
Thanks for your post,John. :-)
