I would find it interesting to know where on the salary range these increases are going, when their last raise was and if the district is having a hard time hiring new teachers. Our district has us paying over $350 a month for our own benefits. We just haven't had the money to keep up with medical cost increases. Do you know what portion of those raises is going into the paycheck and what portion to benefits?
Our district starts teachers out with an insulting salary. If they obtain a Master's and remain with the district, eventually they will earn more than they should but not when you take into consideration how long they were insulted. A spanish teacher with 10 years time in our district has a salary of $32,000 a year. The average cost of a home around here is $305,000.
We can still hire teachers so the salary will remain the same. A teacher needs to chose their spouse well.
