Let's hope the budget is divied up properly and goes to the right places. On another note: I think some consider teaching a cushy job, because you work 5 days a week only until 3pm and you get winter and spring recess and summers off. Granted, I like coming home at 3:30,and I like the recess off however: many teachers who do extra-curricular activities such as coaching, and clubs, come home much later, and though it says we work from 8:30 to 3, many teachers come in 7, 7:30, to be prepared, and stay later as well. As a teacher, I have to tutor my students once a week, so that day I am home about 4:30. Also: I love kids, but when you teach a class of at least 20 (let's face it, most of us have 30 students), and you have your students who have behavioral or learning issues, or ten that forgot their homework, or 3 that still pick their nose, and so on--well, you need to get out by 3, and you need that summer break. Of course, I also teach summer school, so I am a glutton for punishment I guess! (haha)
Teachers don't stop learning once they become teachers. We have to attend workshops, and not all these workshops are free. Many teachers are going for their Master's, but not all districts reimeburse: I think most districts reimburse a small portion. Have you seen the costs of graduate school nowadays? Grad school burned a hole in my pocket,(2 years: approx. $600 a credit, and some classes were worth 3 credits) and then, as a teacher in the alternate route program, you pay another $3000 for classes tohe districts have to have in-service workshops for teachers, too: its called professional development. A teacher never says "oh,well I've leared all I can." We are constantly evolving to fit changing needs in education. Changes in demographics, political governments, and such affect this.
Well wherever the increases are,I hope that the teachers do get their much due raises, but mostly I hope Cliffside gets the resources it needs and deserves. In some cases, the price of one text book costs more than me filling up my tank with gas.
